Water-based paint is a recipe in almost every interior and exterior painting project. This type of paint is easy to clean up, dries quickly, and doesn’t have a harsh odor like some oil-based paints.
1.History of Water-based paint:
From early in the past, people use clay, berries, and different type of flowers to dye items in your house. Once commercial paint became popular, customers would blend these store-bought pigments with their binder (vehicle) of choice to make their own paints. In the early days, binders included animal fat, cow’s milk, and even eggs.
In 1865, D.P. Flinn received the first patent for water-based paint. Flinn's formula blended water with potassium hydroxide, zinc oxide, milk, resin, and linseed oil. In the following decades, manufacturers continued to improve formulas for paint products.
The introduction of latex in the 1940s revolutionized the paint industry. The material made it possible to produce higher quality water-based paints with enhanced applicability. Modern “latex” that goes into the paint including a synthetic polymer that has unique properties and characteristics, and should not be confused with latex rubber.
2. The benefits of water-based paint
- Odour-free
Water-based paints have less odour once applied to surfaces and they don’t react with pollutants in the atmosphere to contribute to climate change. The result is fresh, breathable air for us all, without compromising on easy application and brilliant, long-lasting finishes.
- Quicker to dry
No more two-day paint jobs. Water-based paints dry more quickly than their solvent-based counterparts. Drying time is usually between 4 to 6 hours, meaning you can apply a second coat and go from drab to fab the very same day.
- Enduring elegance
Our water-based paints dry beautifully and stand the test of time. The elastic, flexible finish is resistant to peeling and keeps its colour.
- Easier to clean
After the decorating is done, water-based paints are so much easier to clean from the brush. Simply run underwater.
